WINGS OF ALMIGHTY

The Bible has much to say about the subject of the wings of the birds. God who gave wings to the peacock, the ostrich and the hawk, speaks to us about divine wings. (Job 39:13,26) The Psalmist says, "Hide me under the shadow of Thy wings." (Ps. 17:1) He speaks of God's lovingkindness and putting one's trust under His wings and taking refuge "under the shadow of His wings." (Ps. 36:7; 57:1)

There is a remarkable story of Ruth who left her land and her relatives and came with Naomi to Bethlehem because she decided to follow the God of Israel making it clear that there was no turning back. Boaz, who was later to become her husband, complimented her saying, " The Lord recompense thy work and a full reward be given thee of the Lord God of Israel, under Whose wings thou art come to trust." (Ruth 2:12) God wants us to take cover under His wings. What are the special blessings of resting under His wings?

SECURITY:       The greatest indictment of Jerusalem was that it rejected the tender overtures of the Lord Jesus Who said, " How often would I have gathered thy children as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings and ye would not!" (Luke 13:34) When the chicks are under the wings of the mother, they are protected from the predators, which can only get to the young ones over her dead body. The fiercest enemies and even the hosts of hell cannot touch us under the wings of our Lord Jesus Who said of such, "They shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand." (John 10:28) There may be scorching heat or a chilling freeze or a furious storm outside but we are safe under His wings.

INTIMACY:         The Psalmist said, " He shall cover thee with His feathers and under His wings shalt thou trust." (Ps. 91:4) How close the chicks are to the mother when they nestle under her wings! They feel her warmth and they are closest to her heart. Are you bruised? Are you weak? Are you a limping weakling? Come to the Lord and He will spread His wings over you and heal you because He has "healing in His wings." (Malachi 4:2) God desires intimacy with us through Jesus Christ. The apostle John leaned on Jesus' breast and experienced intimacy with Him. There is nothing on earth that is more important than intimacy with our Lord. Do we know Him intimately?

Dear reader, do you know the Lord Jesus? Or are you outside His wings? He died for your sins and mine. Receive Him as your Savior, turn your life over to Him and spend the rest of your life under His precious wings.?
