Sarah (The
Covenant
Mother ) Woman was needed to make
the situation Good She was designed specifically to be a co-worker for
the man (helper suitable) and complementary worker at that (Suitable)
The method of making Eve involved a complete sharing of the nature- she
was made out of the same stuff (numerically & Essentially) as Adam as
he obviously recognizes in his quote The marriage relationship was as
relegated to a higher importance than parent/Child relationships.
Sarai
became Sarah when we look in Genesis 17:15. God said to
Abram As for sarai your wife you are no longer to call her sarai; her
name will name beSarah. I will
bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless her so that
she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her.
Abram and sarai lived in the land of Ur of Chaldeans, in the midst of
idolatry. One day God asked Abram to leave that country and his people God
said and go to the land I will show you. (Acts7: 2) Together with her husband sarai
accepted the challenge by faith. It is very comfortable when husband wife
agree to go together when the call comes from God. Sarah could persuade
her husband to disobey god as Eve did. It is not easy to leave loved ones,
friends and familiar surroundings and face the perils. But Sarah fully
obeyed to follow Abram as a dutiful and beloved husband.
Years passed since god promised Abram son, Though sarai was
beautiful, wealthy and loved by her husband she was unhappy because she
was barren she couldnt understand the divine delay and her faith wavered.
Sometimes we also dont give time to understand divine delays in our life
too. But we all serve a God who is a promising keeping god forever, Now as
the lord was gracious to Sarah as he has said and lord did for Sarah what
he has promised Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old
age, at the very time God promised him, Abraham gave the name Isaac to the
son Sarah bore him. As years
pass by Abraham had to face a trial of faith when God asked Abraham to
take his only son to sacrifice him as a burnt offering Faith triumphed
over natural affection an over self will it is very probable that he said
nothing about the sacrifice to Sarah. Abraham was rewarded.
When sarah
was hundred and twenty seven years old she died, she is the only woman in
the scripture whose age, death and burial are mentioned. Probably this is
to honor Hebrew mother. Abraham wept for his wife he loved his wife deeply
though they lived in tents all their lives. He bought a piece of land in
Hebron in caanan and buried a Sarah in the cave of machpelah. (Gen
23:9)
In Heb 11: 11 Sarah is mentioned among the heroes of faith.
Sarah gave birth of a son according to the spirit. 1 Peter3:6, Romans 4:19, 9:9 and Isaiah 51:2 shows that
she had the highest place in the Hebrew history. From the life of Sarah and Abraham we learn.Faith, Patience, Obedience,
Hope, Sacrifice, and
Worship.
