HOLY BIBLE - INTRODUCTION

The word BIBLE is derived from the Greek word Biblia, which means "books," and refers to the sacred writings of Judaism and Christianity. THE BIBLE consists of 66 (Sixty Six) books and has two parts. The first part is called the OLD TESTAMENT by Christians. It consists of 39 (thrity nine) books of the sacred writings of the Jewish people which was written originally in Hebrew, except for some portions in Aramaic.
The second part is called the NEW TESTAMENT. It consits 27 (twenty seven) books which was composed in Greek and records the story of JESUS CHRIST and the beginnings of Christianity. It is translated in whole or in part into more than 1,900 languages, THE BIBLE is the BEST SELLER and the most widely distributed book in the world. Its influence on history and culture, including literature and the other arts, is incalculable.

A TRIBUTE TO THE HOLY BIBLE

THE BIBLE is a unique book. One famous writer called it, "the strangest publishing project of all time". And he said, "it was resposible to oversee 40 independent authors, representing 20 occupations, living in 10 countries during a 1,500 year span, working in three languages, with a cast of 2,930 characters in 1,551 places".
The biblical authors included kings, statesmen, fishermen, priests, seers, a physician, a tax collector, a farmer, a general and a tent-making rabbi. Four books record the life of a carpenter-turned-teacher, whom THE BIBLE declares to be God in human form.
It is God's inspired revelation of the origin and destiny of all things, written in the most simple human language possible so that the most unlearned can understand and obey its teachings.
It is self-interpreting and covers every subject of human knowledge and need now and forever. As a literary composition, THE BIBLE is the most remarkable book ever made. It is a divine library of 66 books, some of considerable size and others no larger than a tract. These books include various forms of literature - history, biography, poetry, proverbial sayings, humns, letters, directions for elaborate ritualistic worship, laws, parables, riddles, allegories, prophecy, drama, and others. They embrace all manner of literary styles in human expression.
It is the book that reveals the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners, and the happiness of believers. Its doctrines are holy, its precepts bindings, its histories true, and its decisions immutable. Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy.
THE BIBLE contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you. It is the traveler's compass, the soldier's sword, and the Christian's charter. Here heaven is opened, and the gates of hell disclosed. JESUS CHRIST is its grand subject, our good is its design, and the glory of God its end. It should fill your memory, rule your heart, and guide your feet in righteousness and true holiness.
Read it slowly, frequently, prayerfully, meditatively, searchingly, devotionally, and study it constantly, perseveringly, and industriously. Read it through and through until it becomes part of your being and generates faith that will move mountains.
THE BIBLE is a mine of wealth, the source of health, and a world of pleasure. It is given to you in this life, will be opened at the judgment, and will stand forever. It involves the highest responsibility, will reward the least to the greatest of labor, and will condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents.

HOLY BIBLE, THE BEST SELLER

THE BIBLE is the best-selling and most sold out book of all time. The United BIBLE SOCIETIES (UBS) estimate they have distributed nearly 9 billion BIBLES , whole or in part, since 1947.
In 1989, the American BIBLE SOCIETIES (ABS) distributed more than 106,387,551 Scriputure portions in the United States alone. During the same year, a worldwide partnership of BIBLE SOCIETIES distributed well over 650 million Scripture portions and about 15.5 million BIBLES .
In 1988, the 1,000th anniversary of the baptism of Prince Vladimir of Kiev, the Soviet Union, in an agreement with the UBS (United Bible Society), received hundreds of thousands of BIBLES . According to a recent U.B.S. report, THE BIBLE portions are available in 2,123 languages, the complete BIBLE, in 349 languages, and the New Testament in 841 languages. In 1995, they distributed 565 million BIBLES and BIBLE portions at 200 countries, in the world.
THE BIBLE is, some calculate, a $200 million-a-year retail market in the United States. According to a recent national survey concluded in US, the average American home had four BIBLES and almost all U.S. homes had at least one or more. Most of the Americans prefer King James Version (KJV) of THE BIBLE.
