A Look from the Lord

Dr.Samuel Kumar(C.A)

Just a look from the Lord Jesus meant many things to many people. A look from Him speaks volumes. Let us examine a few instances and see how they might be applicable to us

The disciples of the Lord Jesus had the privilege of walking with Him and talking with Him. They heard, they saw, they gazed upon Him and touched Him. (1John 1:1) While such is not our experience, He is just as real to the eye of faith. Let us grow very close to the Lord Jesus, so that it can be said of us that we have "known Him that is from the beginning." (1John 2:13) Just a look from the Lord Jesus speaks volumes. Let us examine a few instances.

CONVICTION: The Lord Jesus predicted that Peter would deny Him three times. After Peter's fall "the Lord turned and looked upon Peter." (Luke 22:61) That look brought conviction to him and melted him. He went out and sobbed in earnest repentance. There is need for us to receive His look of rebuke and yet of love, a look that brings conviction and also His compassion. We need to weep over our sins and forsake them.

GRIEF: A man with a withered hand came to the synagogue. The Pharisees did not want him to be healed because it happened to be the Sabbath day! The Lord "looked round about on them with anger being grieved for the hardness of their hearts." (Mark 3:5) Hardness of heart is a great grief to our Lord. No one is immune from this sad condition. It can creep in gradually. The Lord asks us as He did His disciples, "Have ye your heart yet hardened?" (Mark 8:17) Let us examine ourselves and repent of the hardness of our hearts.

EMPHASIS: The disciples were puzzled at the seeming impossibility of any person being saved. We are told that "Jesus looking upon them saith, "With men it is impossible but not with God, for with God all things are possible." (Mark 10:27) He looked them in the eye and brought home to them a glorious truth. God can and will do the impossible. How we need our great Master to look us in the eye and emphasize the great truths of His Word, which we so often tend to forget!

COMPASSION: In Mark 6:34 the Lord Jesus, "saw much people and was moved with compassion toward them." He is a tender Shepherd who loves us. He is a Father who does not withhold pity. We are told, "Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear Him." (Ps. 103:13) He knows our sorrows, burdens, needs and tears and looks upon us with compassion. What have we to fear with our compassionate Lord at our side?

OBSERVATION: In Mark 12:41-44, we read that the Lord saw the people contributing to the temple offering. He observed that a poor widow offered just two mites and He pointed to the disciples that her offering was greater than that of others. He observes you and me. He knows what is in the deep recesses of our hearts. "All things are naked and opened unto the eyes of Him with Whom we have to do." (Heb. 4:13) Nothing can escape His eyes of scrutiny. Let us cry out to Him, " Search me O God and know my heart. Try me and know my thoughts and see if there be any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting." (Ps. 139:23,24)

We are told, "the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong toward them whose heart is perfect toward Him." (2 Chro. 16:9)

May our lives be pleasing in His eyes.
