Proverbs 31: 10-31
I
n male dominated world where only the most outstanding(or notorious)
women received much attention. Solomon offers
a glowing portrait of the ideal woman. His tribute also elevates everyday tasks
and describes the value of those who strive to live up to their God- given
womanhood.
Although written
to those who lived long ago, much of Proverbs 31:10-31 remains applicable today.
The new international version of the bible aptly titles this section of
scripture the wife of noble character. Her price is far above rubies" (Pro.
31:10). Twenty two verses of Proverbs 31 are literature most Beautiful
description of womanhood. These verses are Called as the 'ABC- of the perfect
wife, because each Verse begins with a letter of the Hebrew 'alphabet such As,
aleph, Beth etc. This is a tribute to the mother and Wife. The wife and mother,
who possesses few of these Qualities can face life with dignity. Women will
rejoice In the things she stands for and men will find strength And security in
her presence.
Women in her motherhood Represents the continuity of race and she can transmit Her talents to the coming generation. In the book of Proverbs many verses are written as The parent talking to a son. A mother and father Instructing their son. "My son" appears many times over And over again. A son is warned against the 'foolish Woman-, and 'strange woman", contentious and angry Woman, 'brawling woman' and 'adulterous woman' etc Finally mother admonishes her son to be wise and listen. This chapter begins with "the words of King Lamuel, The utterance which his mother taught".
The question Comes who is this King Lemuel? Who is the mother? Tradition says it was Bath Sheba who composed Proverbs 31 as an admonition to Solomon, her son, on his Marriage to Pharaoh's daughter. However Proverbs 31 is designated to show us the character of a virtuous Woman. A virtuous woman is one who is noted for her moral excellence and chastity. Her worth is far more Than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her. She brings him good, not harm, all the days-of her life.
The Proverbs 31 lady gets up early each morning to Make her husband's breakfast and sees her children Also eat properly. She provides variety at mealtime by Wise selection and nutritious and delicious foods. She willingly works around the house. She keeps her families Clothing up-to-date cleans and tidies. ShE knows a bargain when she sees one and is always Concerned about the future stability and supply of her Home. The strength of her character is shown in her Attitude toward her household tasks. She takes pride in a job well done, even if she must stay late hours to Accomplish it. She knows how to use a sewing machine And needle. She has a kind heart and hand for those Who have great needs? Others in her home benefit from Her talents. Her clothing has good taste and modesty. Also she clothes her family well. She designs and sells Garments which provide extra income for her family. She is wise in her speech and especially knows how To say the right words at the right time. She is concerned About the problems and interests of all in her household. She is not a gossiper and does not eat the bread of Husband also praises her.
WoMen! What can we learn from the
Proverbs 31Lady First, she is a virtuous woman.
The virtuous woman is a
dependable woman. One who can be counted? On in every emergency. She is capable
and energetic. One who administers the affairs of the home efficiently? She has
true love and devotion for her husband. A man Owes great respect to his wife,
for it is only through his Wife that full prosperity comes to a man. ShE is also
a noble woman.
She finds her deepest joy In loving service. It is a pride
and joy to her work with Her own hands. The noble woman is clothed with dignity.
It is manifested in providing comfort for her family. She Is self-disciplined
and orderly. It shows in the beauty of Her well ordered home. The Proverbs 31
lady is a spiritual woman. Her life is One of practical godliness. She opens her
arms to the poor and extends her hand to the needy. She is faithful In
ministering at home. Her conduct displays her walk With God. She speaks with
wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She is a dream woman. I
believe that deep in every Woman’s heart lies a hidden longing to be the ideal
Wife and mother. By our own efforts, the woman will Find it hard to imitate the
Proverbs 31 lady. "If the verses Are looked upon as a do-it-yourself project,
frustration And guilt can only result". If the verses are seen as what The power
of the Holy Spirit can accomplish, they are Filled with hope. For "I can do all
things through Christ Which strengthened me".
Lastly, the Proverbs 31 lady is a commended wife And mother. Her children
call her blessed. They attribute Their well-being and blessing to her godly
training and Instruction. Her husband praises her, "Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all" He has found in her what the heart ever craves." Once
whose comeliness of soul and mind excel beauty of face and form". According to
the scripture. Women are the weaker vessel. But they are made strong by wisdom
and grace of the lord. No two women are alike. all are made different by God
Almighty. A woman who fears God will lack nothing in her life. The fear of God
crowns her life. In the New testament.1 Tim 2:9-10. and 1 Peter
3:1-6
These verses teach THE DUTY OF A GOOD WIFE in
agreement with PROVERBS 31
